woo-hoo! the pay-what-you-want model moves to (GOOD) magazine subscriptions

GOOD Magazine, a source for inspiring information graphics (if that's a selling point to anyone but a design-geek) and leading-edge publication design is also leading in their business model with an online subscription page that provides a "Choose your price. Seriously" drop-down menu option.

AND they donate the subscription payment to the non-profit of your choice.

They really are a GOOD magazine...

See an example of the info graphics they come up with on the GOOD Sheet: Bill of Health and Primarily Speaking - An unconventional timeline of the 2008 presidential primaries

Political graphics: all about appropriation -- ?

Even without my personal bias, the RNC graphics look like an elephant on drugs. Or maybe one that just got smacked (cartoon-speak meaning of stars-for-eyes).

When it comes to marketing and communications, these people never do ANYTHING by accident. The DNC graphics look positively sleepy in comparison.

And when did the color red -- and especially a red star -- become core elements of the Republican party graphic identity? Because the historical associations are pretty different.

NYT Blood and Guts

How great is this page! (New York Times Book Review 2008 May 25).

(Added benefit: now I don't have to keep this hanging around my workspace. I can just refer to it on Posterous!)

Ancient is Modern

These lovely graphics based on ancient Mexican art look right at home in contemporary design. Have seen some from this collection used on sales collateral for tea...

And more than a couple in this set also function well as emoticons for too much time at the computer...
